GPS Maps - How Do I Download GPS Maps For Free?

Did you know that you can download GPS maps without paying a single dime?

When you purchase a GPS unit as a navigation aid, your unit would come pre-loaded with a free GPS map. The thing about the pre-loaded map is that they're mostly incomplete in details which could be useful to you on your trip. That's why you'll prefer to find out extra maps and there are a lot of places you will be able to go to online which would offer you a free-of-cost GPS map simply by clicking on a simple download link.

When you perform a Google search for "free GPS map", you will be able to find a lot of places online that let you download a free-of-cost GPS map. Actually, not just one you can download a lot of GPS maps. You will be able to choose and pick out which maps you would like to download and then all you have got to do is upload them from your computer to your GPS receiver. Typically, the GPS unit will be accompanied by the electric cord required to do this and it's really rather simple.

When you're going to a particular address, you'll have to have an elaborated map of that location so that you are able to receive exact and dependable directions to navigate your trip with minimal problems. Finding a free-of-cost GPS map of this location could be done easily by simply performing a web search and then you download the map straightaway to your hard drive.

Pre-loaded maps which accompany your GPS unit - apart from usually deficient in details - typically don't include several points of interest that could make your journey simpler. If you're on a long journey and find that you have to stop somewhere for the night, having the points of interest which include hotels in the region could be a huge benefit and save you a lot of time driving around searching for a place to stay!

Although there are a lot of software programs which you will be able to purchase to load GPS maps into your unit, why do that when you will be able to obtain a free-of-cost GPS map straight from the net? You can choose and pick out which maps you require and it's all free of charge. What could be better than that?

Make sure you know what GPS systems are and how it can benefit you by visiting this popular website about GPS http://www.gpsmapsfree.info where you can also download free GPS maps.

eTrex Presumably atypically

eTrex Presumably atypically   Presumably atypically I use eTrex units nearly exclusively for road navigation and often calculate long routes. I've used a Legend Cx extensively and it's showing its age so I was glad to see the introduction of the 20. I toyed with buying a Nuvi but don't care for the design as it lacks configurability and water resistance, uses a touchscreen, doesn't lend itself well to a motorcycle or kayak or walking when you want to walk. The Legend Cx routinely takes several minutes to calculate in addition to slow map `drawing' times and I'm pleased to note Garmin improved calculating speed significantly. I used the two side by side for quite a while and the 20 calculates in roughly 1/3 the time (still noticeably slower than the Nuvis I've used). Additionally the map drawing time is much reduced. eTrex Presumably atypically Satellite acquisition and retention is quite a bit better: if you turn on both simultaneously the...

Tracki GPS Tracker for Vehicles

Easy Navigation in the Woods or on the Water with the Garmin eTrex GPS Handheld  Tracki GPS Tracker for Vehicles I am an expert navigator with a map & compass but neither is as effective or as easy as the eTrex. I highly recommend the Gramin eTrex as a basic navigational aide. It's also a great starter for learning about GPS systems. It does everything it's meant to and does it very well. Garmin's claims of one handed usage are for real, it is easy to navigate the interface with the solid buttons on the unit." The Garmin eTrex GPS has one of the longest battery lives on the market, another major influence to purchase, and because it is only powered by two AA batteries, the maintenance costs are minimal. I highly recommend the Garmin eTrex GPS to users of any skill looking for a quick, reliable and inexpensive GPS fix. Nothing fancy about this unit -- other than the remarkably easy to use interface. Its not possible to do better in this price range. The ...

Automatic Identification System, AIS - The Best Navigation Aid to Boaters Since the GPS

Automatic Identification System, AIS - The Best Navigation Aid to Boaters Since the GPS   One of the fastest and biggest growth areas in marine navigation is AIS. Having a AIS transmitter unit onboard, will turn your boat into a radio beacon continuously transmitting speed and course and your identity. Conversely having an AIS receiver allows you to track a ships, COG, SOG when in VHF range. This can be very important information for navigating in shipping lanes and channels. What is AIS? AIS stands for Automated Identity System. The identity is the transmitting vessels MMSI number, current speed and course which are just some of the information you can get. AIS has been developed to help prevent collisions between commercial shipping. AIS has been a legal requirement on ships over 300GT for a while. In US waters it is required by commercial ships over 65ft and tugs over 26ft and over 600 HP. Vessels with the proper equipment can receive/send the AIS signal over a special ...
